It’s that time again…….
Not too long ago, The Wall Street Journal published an article called, “The Perfect Salary for Happiness: $75,000“. That article has been on my mind a lot. The basic premise is that there are two kinds of happines. To paraphrase, the first is the “day to day contentment” which as to do with whether your daily living is comfortable and your needs are being met. The second refers to “life assessment” hapiness which has to do with being happy with your place in the world and overall contentment of your life.
The studies referred to in the WSJ claim that day to day happiness improves with a rise in income up to about $75,000 and after that an increase in income doesn’t help with day to day happiness. But the study _also_ showed that the “life assessment” happiness did continue to correlate to income increases.
I dunno. Not sure I buy either claim. But what I do like is the two categories. Just off the top of my head I can think of people who have one of those kinds but not the other. It gives you some insight into your friends and family if you ask yourself which of the two types they have.
