Last night, Pat arranged an (early) Birthday Dinner for me at Chuy’s so some friends could join us. It lived up to expectations! The Traditional Birthday dinner at Chuy’s would be the “Elvis Presley Memorial Special Combination #2.” And indeed it was tempting. a plateful of enchiladas and tacos with a variety of those amazing Chuy’s sauces. But I opted for the Chicken and Cheese Chile Rellenos platter, which is described as “An authentic New Mexican favorite. A fresh Anaheim pepper, fire-roasted and filled with your choice of the following. Battered and fried to perfection. Drizzled with sour cream.”
It was awesome, the outside was crunchy and crisp and not greasy. The chile on the inside definitely had that good grilled taste to it. That kind of chile is actually rather mild in terms of spiciness, but it does have a strong flavor. Couple that with melty cheese on the inside and sour cream on the outside and you have a mouthful of fine tex-mex.
The wait staff gave me a free sopapilla for Birthday and they respectfully honored my friends requests to NOT sing Happy Birthday because I hate being the center of attention like that.
All in all, it was a great evening with my wonderful wife and terrific friends!
