Today Pat and I hiked the Eagle Spur Rail-Trail in south Durham. It’s a 2.3 mile very flat trail which connects Stagecoach Rd to Jordan Lake. The trailhead is off Stagecoach Rd and we had driven by it hundreds of times and always wondered why there were so many cars parked there. Today, we discovered what I nice trail it is. It’s a 2.3 mile very flat trail which connects Stagecoach Rd to Jordan Lake. It used to be a spur rail line going to Duncan. It’s an easy, shaded hike except for one or two places where there’s some construction.
Someone had thoughtfully left these shoes at the trailhead in case we needed them.
The trailhead marker:
Long, straight, and beautiful
The leaves are just beginning to bud on the trees
Some spring flowers
One small obstacle on the path. There was a way to walk around, but I got a kick out of walking across the board.
The trail leads to Jordan Lake and you can tell we are in the middle of pollen season.
Here are a couple of views across the like. I like the color palette here. Early spring colors.
We were very excited to see a Blue Heron land in the swampy area of the lake and start hunting for fish. Can you spot the Blue Heron in these pictures?
This guy wasn’t as exciting, but easier to spot….
